Our contribution to social capital

CTD has significantly contributed to build up mechanism by maintaining and capacitating grass root level implementing various activities, staff and volunteers capacity and skill at level best. We invest in our staffs/volunteers to build their capacity, beyond our programs.

Reaching the Unreached

We strive to mainstream the lives of the most underserved populations who have not been accessed by development efforts or are living in difficult situation. A majority of our programs are in rural areas as well as urban areas.

Sustainable support and positive outcomes

CTD has significantly contributed to nation building efforts by providing sustainable support, to achieve positive outcomes in the lives of deprived, excluded and vulnerable children. We are the only organization in Hooghly that supports children from birth to age 24. Our long-term commitment has enabled us to bring about lasting solutions through innovative approaches. Our Priority Programs have been designed to address the basic needs of health, education and livelihood to help these children explore their full potential and realize their dreams.

Resilience through participatory planning

Participatory planning of CTD has empowered community and enhanced resilience of the society in Tarakeswar Block and also Hooghly District. Our program planning incorporates contextual situational analysis, especially the DEV analysis (analysis of deprived, excluded and vulnerable children), which is based upon a series of consultative processes. Recording children’s voice is an integral part of these processes.

Strengthening community structures
Communities are considered key stakeholders in the design and implementation of our programmatic interventions. We involve communities via a two-pronged strategy:

• Strengthen existing community structures formed under government programs which includes Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Committees (VHSNC), School Management Committees, Village Education Committees, Gram Panchayats (village level elected local body), etc. This approach helps to ensure their participation in the decision making process for the entitlements enshrined in government schemes.
• Create community institutions like child clubs, youth clubs, village development committees, women self-help groups, etc.

• Mainstreaming under-served children in the formal education system and supporting them with resources to perform well in their academic sphere.
• Reducing dropout in high risk areas and strengthening community mechanisms to ensure no child is left out of school.
• Strengthening participation by capturing children’s voices along with inputs from community.
• Equipping schools with essential infrastructure.
• Building teacher capacity through training and grade appropriate teaching-learning material.
• Boosting student performance through reading improvement plans, scholarships, libraries, child resource centers, coaching classes, youth resource centers and study circles.
• Develop self-governing and monitoring devices like child wellbeing committees and children’s parliaments.
• Improve learning outcomes and quality of education in schools, by working with teachers to improve the classroom transaction process by adopting innovative pedagogy.
• Link families with social protection schemes and help them improve their investment in the health and education of their children.

CTD is working for the downtrodden people along with excluded, deprived and vulnerable children. There is dearth of everything to work with such people Man, Money and Material. Any kind hearted person may offer anything within his/her means. CTD will accept it with gratitude. Gratitude
The organization is highly indebted to ChildFund India, Govt. of India, Govt of West Bengal, various technical Institutes, All Gram Panchayets,Tarakeswar Panchayet Samity, Block Education Department, DPO, DCPU and other District level concern authorities etc. who provided us with financial and technical support. We are also indebted to the administration of Govt. of West Bengal and Govt of India for legal support and to the PRIs for implementation support. The local medical officer I/C of Tarakeswar Rural Hospital (BMOH), the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), DPO (Hooghly District) SI of Primary Schools of Tarakeswar Block, (NCLP)Hooghly District Nabadisha child-labour project society, Tarakeswar Municipality, WBSAP&CS, LIC(I), IGNOU etc. gave us wholehearted support for implementation. The bodies with which we have network / association also gave us valuable technical support when needed. Local dignitaries and common people also supported us as per their best ability. Members helped the organisation selflessly to carry forward the activities of the organisation. Staff did their best to achieve what we have done and above all ChildFund India visiting officers provided their valuable advice and technical guidance from time to time. We also give our heartiest thanks to NACO and SACS for giving their heartiest technical and financial support to CTD. We also giving our heartiest wishes to Netaji Subhas Open University (Tarakeswar Study Centre) for sending their students to our organization for their practical work of experience. Many a voluntary organizations spread throughout the state and with whom we have connection helped us. All the small and big helps of people and organizations made CTD as it is. We are deeply grateful to all these people / organizations / Institutions for their kind and gracious help. We hope to have their kind continued/co-operation & support in future also to blossom up the organization in various ways in near future.
